Harmony day has just passed, and it has come with the message of tolerance and ethnic diversity in Australia. While we celebrated it by harmonising and creating a balance among all the different cultural groups, we often forget about our body. Shouldn’t our body be harmonised and well-balanced too? Don’t forget that you can’t be balanced outside if you’re not balanced within. Start by balancing your pH level.
What is pH?
pH is the measure of the activity of hydrogen in a solution. A pH of 7 is said to be balanced. Anything lower than 7 is acidic, and anything higher than 7 is alkaline. All the processed foods that you consume everyday are acidic. Here are some simple tips to improve your pH balance.
Lemon water to start your day
Increase your cell alkalinity by drinking a tall glass of lukewarm water mixed with juice from half a lemon. This citrus booster will help your digestive system stay clean and will enhance your metabolism. Although lemons are rich in citric acid, lemon water will actually neutralize the excess acid in the body. It will hydrate you and cleanse the system while boosting your immunity.
Eat raw foods
Organic veggies, juices, and smoothies are a good way to improve the pH balance of your body. Leafy green vegetables, sprouts, fruits, seeds, nuts, and seaweed – they all give us a rich supply of vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients. They also alkalize our body and fight cancer cells. Instead of taking an acidic diet consisting of animal products and processed foods, switch over to organic vegetables.
Exercise and sleep well
Your pH doesn’t just depend on your diet, but also on your lifestyle. If you lack sleep, remain stressed, don’t exercise, and smoke/drink too much, you are ruining the pH balance of your body. Emotional stress is bad for the body as it produces acid-forming hormones like adrenaline and cortisol that disturb your system. You can try various stress-breaking remedies such as yoga, meditation, gardening, and breathing exercises. This will reduce the negativity that builds up due to the day-to-day activities, and improve your health.
Visit to the spa
You don’t have to spend a lot of time and money on spa – just a small sauna session would be enough. When you sweat, you get rid of the toxins in your body and improve your pH level. There are different types of saunas available in Australia, and one of the most popular ones is the infrared sauna. The main reason for its popularity is that the heat generated by infrared is similar to that generated by the sun, minus the harmful UV rays.
Keep in mind that while energy drinks and club soda are the most acidic, spinach and carrots are the most alkaline. The only neutral thing is water. Tap water, spring water, river water – it’s all neutral. Make sure you don’t drink distilled water as it is acidic in nature. Green tea is alkaline and white bread is acidic. In a nutshell, anything processed is acidic. In honour to Harmony day, take a vow to eat alkaline foods to have a well-balanced and harmonised body from today.
