Staying Safe in Your Infrared Sauna from Newcastle's JNH Lifestyle

So you just purchased a new infrared sauna in Newcastle from JNH Lifestyles. First of all, congratulations! A home sauna is a great way to relax and de-stress at the end of a hard day or to adopt a healthier lifestyle across the board.

As you prepare to use your infrared sauna for the first time, though, consider these few safety tips. Infrared sauna technology is, by itself, completely safe. While these types of saunas do use infrared rays and natural solar properties to create the sauna experience (as opposed to steam), they do not use any harmful ultraviolet rays. Still, these practices are the best ways to ensure a positive experience with your brand new infrared sauna in Newcastle.

  • Stay Hydrated: Saunas are good for cutting water weight and draining toxins from the body through sweat, which means you need to stay hydrated to avoid overheating. Drink plenty of water before, during and after any session in the sauna. Aim to have two glasses of water in the half hour before using the sauna, and plenty afterward as well.
  • Skip the alcohol: You may feel the urge to have a beer or a cocktail while using your sauna, but resist. Alcohol lowers your blood pressure—something that doesn't mix well with the rise in body temperature that a sauna instigates. Drinking before or during a sauna session can result in fainting or light-headedness, nausea and more.
  • Avoid the sauna if pregnant: Because of high temperatures, saunas can be dangerous for women who are pregnant. Though infrared saunas are lower in temperature than traditional saunas, there is still a risk of the heat levels causing damage to a fetus.
